Jacqueline Fernandez has been confirmed as the lead actress in Salman Khan’s Kick.
Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone were in the running for the coveted role in the remake of a Nepali thriller.
In a recent interview with Digital Spy, the actress described her journey in films, saying: “It’s funny because I’m always like ‘It’s taken me so long’, but people are like, ‘No, you’ve got to see it the other way around’.
“It’s definitely not been an overnight success especially the Bollywood aspect of it. But yes, Miss Sri Lanka was a huge platform for me, but the Bollywood aspect has been quite a difficult journey because my first two Bollywood films didn’t do well and it’s really difficult to get second chances in Bollywood, especially if you’re not from a film family or your connections aren’t very strong.”
She added: “After Murder 2 did well things just started working out for me.”
The TV anchor and model-turned-actress also appears in Ramaiya Vastavaiya for an item song. Fernandez told DS that she was eager to work with Prabhu Deva
“It is an item song and for me it’s perhaps one of my most exciting ones and it’s working with Prabhu Deva, who I have idealised for so long,” she said. “He’s so dreamy. I just love the way he dances.
“He’s a legend in so many ways, so I jumped on that one even though I’m not really keen on doing item songs, but they are making this really desi and just the fact that I get to share screen space with Prabhu Deva I thought I’ll let this one go. It’s fine.”
Item songs are the focus of much debate, but the 27-year-old insisted that they are part of a tradition of song and dance in Bollywood.
“I’ll stand by them obviously because I’ve been part of them but for Bollywood an item song is the way that we promote our movies. They’ve been around for a long time,” she said.
“They’re almost part of a tradition obviously, aesthetically done they are fantastic to be part of. So I would have to kind of support the fact that we embrace it and it’s a unique concept.”
Fernandez will begin shooting for Kick with Salman Khan on July 24. (digitalspy.co.uk)
