More Lankan refugees registered

Over 300 birth certificates were issued this week for children born to Sri Lankan parents living in refugee camps in Tamil Nadu, the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission in Chennai said today.
The Deputy High Commission said that more than 5,000 Sri Lankan birth and citizenship certificates have been issued over the last four years for Sri Lankan children who were born in Tamil Nadu and living in the refugee camps in Tamil Nadu.
This week 353 Sri Lankan Birth Certificates were issued for Sri Lankan children living in refugee camps in Salem district of Tamil Nadu and 567 Sri Lanka Citizenship Certificates were issued for Sri Lankan children living in the refugee camps in Remeshwaram, Virudunagar and Madurai in Tamil Nadu/
The certificates were handed over for distribution by the Acting Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka O.L. Ameerajwad to?Shri B. Anand, IAS, the newly appointed? Principal Secretary/Commissioner of Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils of the Government of Tamil Nadu at the Commissionerate of Rehabilitation, in Chennai.
The Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai has been conducting ?Mobile Service Programmes? in various districts of Tamil Nadu to register the births of Sri Lankan children who were born in Tamil Nadu and living in the refugee camps.
Following the registration of their births, citizenship certificates are issued.? In the past, such mobile service programmes were conducted in Gummidipoondi, Madurai, Virudunagar, Rameshwaram, Cuddalore and Salem districts of Tamil Nadu.
The Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission also conducted ?Special Consular Service Programmes? to register the births of Sri Lankan children who were born in Tamil Nadu and are living in the refugee camps in Tamil Nadu, at the Chancery premises of the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai.
