External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris had discussions at Marlborough House in London with Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary General of the Commonwealth, about the arrangements under way for the meeting of Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) in Sri Lanka in November this year, the External Affairs Ministry said today.
Minister Peiris also briefed the Secretary General regarding the government?s plans for three other major events on the sidelines of the Summit ?? the Business Forum in Colombo, the Youth Forum in Hambantota and the People?s Forum in Dambulla.
The meeting came ahead of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) meeting at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London today.
CMAG will discuss political developments in Fiji since September 2012, when the Group last met in New York. Fiji remains fully suspended from the Commonwealth and on CMAG?s formal agenda.
Dr Dipu Moni, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, will preside over the meeting in her capacity as current CMAG Chair.
Ministers attending today?s meeting are Dr Dipu Moni, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh (Chair); Senator Bob Carr, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Australia (Deputy Chair); John Baird, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Canada; AJ Nicholson, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Jamaica; Dr Abdul Samad Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maldives; Dr Samura Kamara, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sierra Leone; Bernard K Membe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Tanzania; Winston Dookeran, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communications, Trinidad and Tobago; and Edward Natapei, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vanuatu.
