The police have?sought?the assistance of the international police INTERPOL, to track down and arrest 8 suspects wanted in connection with a multi million Rupee VAT fraud.
The police media unit said that an open?warrant?has been issued to arrest the suspects who are?overseas and INTERPOL assistance has also been sought.
A statement by the police media unit today said that another 6?suspects?who were produced in court yesterday over the case had pleaded guilty.
Three of them were sentenced to jail by the Colombo High Court while the other three will be sentenced at the end of this month, the police said.
The accused had?committed?the crime?between 2002 and 2004 at the Inland Revenue Department.
They had been charged with the fraud of Rs. 3.99 Million following a case filed by the Finance Ministry in 2006. (Colombo Gazette)
