Court frees Malaka, Rehan from assault case

The Fort Magistrate today freed Malaka Silva and his friend Rehan Wijeyratne from a case filed over an assault on an Army Major.
Malaka Silva, Minister Mervyn Silva?s son and Rehan had been arrested last September over the assault on the Army Major at a hotel in Colombo.
They were later given bail after the Army Major withdrew the complaint filed against them at the Slave Island police station.
However the court had sought the advice of the Attorney General and on his advice the suspects in the assault case were freed today.

More arrivals found to be infected in Sri Lanka

More arrivals have been found to be infected in Sri Lanka, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of Covid-19 said today. Four Sri Lankans who returned from overseas have tested positive for the coronavirus. The four Sri Lankans were detected over a 24-hour period ending at 6am today. Eight more coronavirus related deaths reported in Sri Lanka

Eight more coronavirus related deaths have been reported in Sri Lanka, the Government Information Department said today. The Government said that the eight deaths has taken the death toll in Sri Lanka to 264. Of the eight victims, one is a 63-year-old female from Kolonnawa. She died while undergoing treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. The second victim is a 75-year-old male from Borella. He died at the Mulleriyawa Base Hospital.
