Samarasinghe appointed to head delegation

Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has been appointed at the last minute as the head of the Sri Lankan delegation to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session in Geneva.
Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Ravinatha Aryasinghe, who was earlier appointed to?temporarily head the delegation, will still be part of the delegation under Samarasinghe.
The appointment of the high level delegation to attend the 22nd session of the Council comes as Sri Lanka prepares to face a barrage of allegations over human rights abuses at the Council.
The Unites States (US) has already indicated it will submit a procedural resolution on Sri Lanka while the European Union has confirmed it will also support moves to push for?reconciliation?in Sri Lanka.

Government assures security for all communities in Sri Lanka

More than 11,200 Army absentees report during amnesty

A total of 11,232 Army deserters including 15 Officers, 09 Officer Cadets and 11,208 other rank personnel had reported to their respective Regimental Centers seeking legal discharge during the General Amnesty extended to Army absentees which ended at midnight, Wednesday, the army said today.
