US concerned over human rights abuses

The United States (US) says it continues to be deeply concerned by allegations of violations of international humanitarian law and human rights in Sri Lanka.
US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said that at the end of the conflict the US supported a full accounting for all who were engaged in acts of violating international humanitarian law.
?We also welcome the report by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay, noting the strong concern about the Government of Sri Lanka?s lack of action to address these longstanding issues of reconciliation and accountability,? she said.
Nuland recalled that the US hopes to introduce its own resolution on Sri Lanka to the Human Rights Council which begins meeting in Geneva next week. (Colombo Gazette)
