Parliament erupts over recognition given to SAITM

A heated exchange of words took place in Parliament today over the recognition given to the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM). Higher Education Minister Lakshman Kiriella said that SAITM was approved by the former Government. He urged former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to allow SAITM to be given legal recognition. Government urged to de-proscribe all diaspora groups

Northern Province Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran, has appealed to the government to de-proscribe all the Tamil Diaspora organisations and stringently scrutinize only select individuals, the New Indian Express reported. IUSF convener remanded for violating bail conditions

The?Colombo Fort Magistrate today ordered the convener of the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) Lahiru Weerasekara to be remanded till February 9.
