BASL seeks compromise with the President

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), which convened today, has decided to seek a meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa to discuss the situation following the?impeachment?of Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake.
Outgoing President of the BASL?Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that they want to discuss the future of the?judiciary with the President.
He said that the President will need to decide if he is going to remove the?incumbent Chief Justice or not following the impeachment vote in parliament yesterday.
BASL members, speaking after the meeting today, told reporters that they had decided to seek a compromise with the President on the Chief Justice issue.
However?Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said a decision taken last month not to formally welcome a new Chief Justice if?Bandaranayake is removed and replaced by the President, still stands.

Three killed in Wellawaya accident

Three people were killed following an accident in Wellawaya involving a three-wheeler and a cab. The Police said that a 11-year-old child was injured in the accident. The accident took place along the Wellawaya – Thanamalwila Road in the Nuga Yaya area. The three people killed were travelling in the three-wheeler. Litro and Laugfs reduce gas prices

Both Litro and Laugfs announced a reduction in the price of domestic gas. Litro Gas said that a 12.5kg gas cylinder has been reduced by Rs. 1,005 from midnight tonight. Accordingly, a 12.5kg Litro Gas cylinder will be sold at Rs. 3,738. A 5kg cylinder has been reduced by Rs. 402 and will be sold at Rs. 1,502 while a 2.3kg cylinder has been reduced by Rs. 183 and will be sold at Rs. 700.
