Another 17 arrested in Jaffna

Another 17 people were arrested in Jaffna by the Terrorist Investigations Division (TID), reports from Jaffna said today.

Reports said that 15 people were arrested in Achuveli yesterday and another two people were arrested in Kopai today.

All those arrested were initially taken to the respective police stations in their areas and then to Vavuniya for investigations.

Last week the TID arrested several others under the anti terrorism laws just days after university students in Jaffna clashed with the police on the?anniversary of the LTTE ‘heroes day’.

Complaints had been lodged last week with the human rights commission in Jaffna regarding some of the arrests.

Fonseka questioned by CID over Noyahr’s abduction and assault

Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka was questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today over the abduction and assault on journalist Keith Noyahr in 2008.
