Opposition members withdraw

The four opposition members in the Parliament Select Committee (PSC) investigating the allegations raised against Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake, withdrew today after ?the chairman of the PSC refused to accept a set of conditions put forward to the?committee.

Meanwhile the entire opposition staged a walkout from parliament saying the PSC on the Chief Justice was not fair.

Earlier the opposition members in the PSC had put forward a set of?conditions to the chairman of the PSC Minister Anura Priyadharshan Yapa.

The opposition members had wanted Yapa to agree to the conditions but he had refused to do so resulting in the four opposition members of the 11 member PSC walking out.

Lawyers representing the Chief Justice had said yesterday that she had also walked out of the PSC proceedings saying she had no confidence in having a fair hearing.

More Sri Lankans who returned to the island test positive

More Sri Lankans who returned from overseas have tested positive for COVID-19. The National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said 22 Sri Lankans who had returned to the island had tested positive.
