More arrests by TID reported in Jaffna

More people have been arrested in Jaffna by the?Terrorist?Investigations Division (TID), the Uthayan newspaper reported?quoting sources as saying.

According to the report 13 people between the ages of 19 and 55 were arrested over the past 2 days which includes 7 arrested by the TID and brought to Colombo this week.

The Uthayan newspaper reported that there were unconfirmed reports of a higher number of arrests but those reports could not be confirmed.

Earlier this week the Jaffna Human Rights Commission had said that complaints were lodged over the arrest of 7 Tamils by the TID over terrorism related charges.

Speaker informs President on passing of no-confidence motion

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has informed President Maithripala Sirisena on the passing of the no-confidence motion on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in Parliament today. Jayasuriya said that the vote on the motion was conducted in line with the discussion held yesterday between the President, the Speaker and some party leaders. The Speaker also sent a list with the signatures of 122 Parliamentarians who backed the motion.
