Corex-D banned in Sri Lanka

The Ministry of Health?announced?today that the Corx-D?cough?syrup has been banned in Sri Lanka.

According to the Health Ministry, the ban was imposed following the deaths of six individuals who had taken the syrup.

In 2007 the National Drug and Cosmetic Authority had issued a special circular to all pharmacies in Sri Lanka prohibiting the issue of Corex – D syrup to patients without a doctor’s prescription.

This was to prevent its abuse as a substitute for alcohol by a large number of schoolchildren and adults.

It was reported that a significant number of school children and adults use Corex – D syrup as a substitute for alcohol. (Colombo Gazette)

Buddhist Sunday schools to reopen next week

All Buddhist Sunday schools (Daham Pasal), except those in isolated areas, will reopen next week. Commissioner General of Buddhist Religious Affairs Sunanda Kariyaperuma said the Sunday schools will reopen from 17 January, 2021.
