A police complaint has been lodged over the Malabe private medical college, the police media unit said today.
The complaint was lodged at the police headquarters by the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA).
According to the police, the GMOA had asked IGP N.K. Illangakoon to investigate the circumstances under which the private medical college was established in Malabe as well as several other issues.
The police media unit said that investigations will be launched once the facts are ascertained based on the complaint.
The government had said earlier this year that the Malabe private medical college which was set up by the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITEM), falls short of the Universities Act as it l lacks a teaching hospital.
As a result the Higher Education Ministry said that the college has been given only provisional recognition. (Colombo Gazette)
