The police have launched investigations to locate another Chinese man after the diamond in the possession of the Chinese national arrested at the BMICH gem exhibition last week was found to be a fake.
Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that the Gem and Jewellery Authority had confirmed that the diamond recovered from the Chinese man in police custody has no value.
The Chinese man was arrested last week after he was seen swallowing a diamond at the FACETS gem exhibition at the BMICH.
Another man, also a Chinese national, who was with him at the time had fled and is now believed to be having the real diamond worth Rs. 1.8 million.
