Decision to import limited number of vehicles suspended

A decision taken earlier to import a limited number of vehicles has been suspended. The Cabinet decided to suspend the move when it met today, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s office said. Coronavirus death toll in Sri Lanka increases to 1243

The coronavirus death toll in Sri Lanka increased to 1243 today with another 33 deaths being confirmed. The Ministry of Health had confirmed the deaths of five people as a result of the virus yesterday. The Government Information Department said that the cause of death of another 28 people between 17th May and 23rd May had also been confirmed as coronavirus. Hotline introduced to inquire on essential services

A 24-hour hotline has been introduced for the public to make inquiries with regard to essential services. The public have been informed to contact the hotline 1965 to inquire about essential services that are in operation during the islandwide travel ban. An islandwide travel restriction has been enforced from 21st -25th May in a bid to curtail the third wave of the coronavirus rapidly spreading in Sri Lanka. The Government has permitted only essential services to operate during this period.
