Galle DIG interdicted

Galle DIG Hector Dharmasiri has been interdicted over bribery allegations and for using members of the civil defence force to carry out his personnel work.

The police media unit said that the DIG was interdicted today on the instructions of IGP N.K. Illangakoon.

A case was filed against the Galle DIG in 2007 over the bribery incident. The commission for Bribery and corruption had presented 15 counts relating to fraud and corruption against the DIG to the Chief Magistrate.

Last month seventeen police officers including the OIC of Imaduva Police in Galle were transferred to the Galle Police Headquarters on the orders of DIG Hector Dharmasiri.

Among the other officers transferred were a Sub Inspector, six Police Sergeants, two Women Police Sergeants, five Police Constables and one Service Support Officer. They have been replaced by new officials.

The media had then questioned about the urgency for these transfers and allegations of political influence triggering the instantaneous transfers.

Field officers, number of State institutions made essential services

Fifty Sri Lankans who returned from overseas infected

Another 50 Sri Lankans who returned from overseas have been found to be infected with the coronavirus. Former UNP CMC member arrested over scam

A former United National Party (UNP) member of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has been arrested over a vehicle assembly scam. The Police said that the suspect was identified as a 56-year-old former member of the CMC.
