JVP dissident leader found

JVP dissident leader Premkumar Gunaratnam alias Noel Mudalige has been found after being reported missing since last weekend.

The police said that Gunaratnam appeared before the police late last night and gave a statement and left for Australia this morning.

Australian authorities also confirmed that the activist reported missing by his family and political party in Sri Lanka had been found.

“We can confirm the safety of the 42-year-old man from New South Wales reported missing in the region of Kiribathgoda, Sri Lanka, on 7 April,” an Australian official told AFP, declining to elaborate.

The Immigration and Emigration Department meanwhile confirmed that Noel Mudalige had left Sri Lanka for Australia via Malaysia on-board a Sri Lankan airlines flight this morning.

UPDATE: JVP dissident Dimuthu Attygala was also found a few hours later.
