CEB unions threaten to strike

Trade unions attached to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) have threatened to go on strike in the event the government fails to address some of their issues. CEB Trade Union member Ranjan Jayalal said that the government must address the salary anomalies issue of the CEB staff without further delay. The CEB staff took to the streets today and protested outside the CEB head office demanding the attention of the Power and Energy Ministry, Finance Ministry and CEB management on the issue. Jayal

An entire month to fight dengue

The government has decided to declare an entire month to fight the spread of dengue in the country, the Health Ministry said. The dengue eradication month will come into effect from June 25th to July 25th, the Health Ministry said. The decision was taken when Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena convened an urgent meeting today with a Presidential Task Force to combat dengue.
