MIG-27 crashes near Chilaw

An Air Force MIG-27 jet crashed in Dummalasuriya, near Chilaw this afternoon, the Air Force said.

The pilot of the jet had however ejected just before the crash and was said to be unhurt.

The Air Force said that the MIG 27 fighter jet belonged to the Air Force No. 12 Jet Squadron at Katunayake.

It crashed while on a routine training mission. There were no casualties or damage to property on ground following the crash.

Further investigations into the incident is being conducted by a board appointed by the Commander of the Air Force.
