The police said that an attempt to abduct a teenager from Trincomalee and send her overseas for employment was busted.

According to the police media unit, the 15 year old girl who was boarded at a house in Trincomalee had gone to a store to purchase some goods.

The police said that a 50 year old woman and a 21 year old boy had then approached the young girl and asked her if she would like to travel overseas.

Unsuspecting foul play the teenager had consented and was taken away by the couple to the Trincomalee railway station to be sent to Colombo.

However, following a tip-off, the Trincomalee police arrested the couple and another suspect at the railway station.

The underage girl was meanwhile produced at the Trincomalee hospital for a medical check.
